SEAPA Annual Maintenance Shutdown 2023 Fuel Adjustment Charge & Call for Energy Conservation

SEAPA will be shutting down the hydroelectric feed to Petersburg from May 31st – June 9th  to allow for numerous critical maintenance activities at Tyee Lake, Swan Lake and the SEAPA Intertie transmission line. The Borough Assembly has recently approved a fuel adjustment charge that will be used to offset a portion of the diesel fuel expense incurred by PMPL during the SEAPA shutdown.  The fuel adjustment charge is directly related to how much diesel fuel is needed to meet Petersburg’s power demands while SEAPA Hydro is unavailable.

The fuel adjustment charge will be calculated based on the diesel fuel expense and the amount of diesel generation compared to overall power sales during the subject billing period.  The charge is applied to customer’s kilowatt hour usage during the May/June billing cycle.  This one-time charge will be a separate line item on the utility billings that will be sent out in July.

In preparation, Petersburg Municipal Power & Light advises customers to conserve energy, from May 15th through June 26th so the fuel adjustment charge will be minimized as much as possible.  The less power all customers use, the less diesel fuel is needed to meet local power demands and the lower the additional cost will be for everyone.

PMPL thanks our customers for their understanding, support, and conservation efforts.
